This New Horror Film Is Now Streaming, and It Has the Power to Test Your Partnership.

We present a challenge for partners in committed relationships who appreciate scary movies: Get comfortable with your loved one and stream Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie recently had its online premiere on the Hulu service. Outwardly, it could look like typical physical horror, but within Together resides a deep contemplation about the ways we decide to love one another.

An Introductory Film Exploring Relationship Dynamics

Together is the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It stars Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, partners that have stayed together for a decade. United in marriage in real life in 2017, the two stars bring a unique chemistry to their characters, expertly portraying both the joys and frustrations of a long-term relationship.

The plot begins when Tim and Millie move from the urban environment to the country for professional reasons. A commonly used narrative setup, sure, but that’s largely where the cliches end. Together evolves into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the pair’s relationship as it is a film about physical terror.

A Paranormal Spark

While walking near their country house, a storm hits, and Millie and Tim discover an hole in the earth. After a night spent there and finally finding a way out, a mysterious influence takes hold of the duo. This force induces a otherworldly bond between them that goes well past simple connection.

The complete narrative is a methodically building fright fest, blending bits of fever-dream horrors, gross (but tastefully done) biological grotesqueries, and surprisingly comedic dialogue (sometimes during something grotesque). The director weaves these elements together seamlessly and wraps them up in a slowly mounting atmosphere of fear.

Complex Characterizations

A significant portion of Together is solely Brie and Franco, and they masterfully render manifold depths to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Her self-assurance and feeling of intimacy is suffering due to a emotional and physical gap. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his reluctance to chase only his struggling artistic pursuits gradually emerges.

In contrast, Tim's character feels trapped and cut off by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve moved to the country and removed from his support system. He fears the idea of utterly sacrificing his individual identity in his partner. This fear is amplified by the circumstance he lacks a driver's license and relies on Millie for getting around.

Shanks’ smartest move in this movie refrains from painting either of his characters the obvious villain.

Tim and Millie confront the kind of problems that are inherent in long-term unions after ten years. Fundamentally, they continue to care for each other. They share moments of joy, comfort one another, and share intimately at times. But below this facade, there’s an inescapable current of uncertainty about their relationship.

Thematic Depth

While the supernatural forces in Together symbolize these anxieties of unhealthy attachment and fully committing to another person, the allegory avoids being hamfisted or heavy-handed. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments offer a ideal counterpart to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the supernatural and the personal serve the other in harmony.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s ending, which is best experienced firsthand, has left audiences divided on the movie's final takeaway about codependent relationships. Reports indicate that single viewers have understood the narrative as a compelling reason for staying single. Conversely, a few pairs experiencing tension found that the film ultimately assisted them reconcile.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own response could potentially serve as a revealing measure of how you think about commitment. Will the ending inspire anxiety and horror, or a positive outlook on love? Will you recognize your own traits in Tim or Millie and yell at the screen, or simply look at your partner and say, “I understand that choice”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an test you can embark on right now.

Together is streaming on the streaming service Hulu as of this moment.
